Advantage(s) of Manual VTP Pruning?

Is it possible to describe/measure the positive effect - if really any - (e.g. performance, load of trunks) of manually VTP pruning (clear trunk m/p x-y) at the VTP server (core/distribution) in direction to the access switches? We want - for different reasons - not use the 'VTP pruning enable'.

Example: 2 C6K (6509), VTP server, about 40 trunks to the access layer and 30 VLANs.

Thanks for any input/suggestions.

If VLAN assigment does not change often on your access switches, clearing of the VLANs manually off the trunk is a good idea
