Alternative default route

Hi,

My network have many subnets, I use vlans, all of them are routed by RSM-IOS (tm) L3 Switch/Router Software (CAT4232-IN-M), Version 12.0(10)W5(18f)(Catalyst 4006 core). To go to Internet there are two firewalls, that are connected in the switch.

My question is, in the rsm is correct I configure static route this way :

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 <ip address firewall 1>

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 <ip address firewall 2> 2 ==> if the firewall 1 down, the second take over the traffic to internet automatically.

Thks,

Paulo

Re: Alternative default route

Increase the admin distance on the second route. For example,ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 200. That way this route will no be used until the first route (in your question) goes away. By the way you should get away from 18f. Here is a note from the release notes "The 12.0(10)W5(18g) release contains important fixes. If you are currently running 12.0(10)W5(18f) you should migrate to the 12.0(10)W5(18g) release or to the recommended 12.0(14)W5(20) release because 12.0(10)W5(18f) has been deferred."

Re: Alternative default route

Thks for your answer.

Sorry, my version is Version 12.0(25)W5(27).

Actually, I use distance 2, is that right ? And I have configured port-channell, for example : port-channell 1.10, 1.20, etc..

Thks again,

Paulo
