Appletalk and 6506

I have a network with 6506 at the core, 3508xl at the distribution layer, and 2950's at the access layer. I need to implement Appletalk across 15 networks to support 35 printers, etc. Assistance in doing so would be appreciated. I'm not sure how to seed Appletalk or how to make sure zones are in effect. Thank you in advance. jb

Re: Appletalk and 6506

There is not much you need to configure on 2950's and XL. Make sure you have STP portfast enabled on switchportsconnected directly to workstation. I'm assuming you are gonna route Apple-talk on the MSFC. The following pages should help you

OK, I've seen these links before. How do I route Appletalk on the MSFC?

Re: Appletalk and 6506

You give your cable-ranges and Zones under the VLAN interfaces just like you would on physical interface of a router

appletalk routing

interface Vlan1

ip address

appletalk cable-range 1-1 1.136

appletalk zone testing

Re: Appletalk and 6506

You are running the service provider (psv) feature set. You'll need desktop(dsv) or the enterprise(jsv). I suggest that you upgrade to "c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-11b.E4". You can download it from

Re: Appletalk and 6506

I would suggest that you consider running pure IP on the MACs. Appletalk is only supported in software and does not get line rate with hardware CEF. There is no development continuing for Appletalk even with Apple who is focusing totally on IP. Easy to say, hard to do.
