ARP entries

Can anyone tell me why my switches etc store all arp entries. i.e if I do sh arp I get lots of ip addresses ?

Hi Carl,

If it is a L3 switch it will have the arp entries as it does the proxy arp for inter-vlan traffic. If its a L2 switch, it will not have any arp entries for the traffic destined to any device other than the switch itself.

how about my routers ? why do they have it, is it worth leaving ip proxy arp on ?

Your routers alo make an ARP table as they does the proxy arp. Leave it on on the routers.
