ATM DS3 VBR from 5MB to 40MB

Hi there,

We have a ds3 circuit that is provisioned at 5MB then will be burst up to 40MB the following day. Just wondering what is the recommended configuration for this.

vbr-nrt 5000 5000 40000 ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If your application is mainly data, you might want to use either VBR NRT or ABR. If your applications are capable of tolerating cell delay then ABR is a good option.

I think its not a good option to burst upto 40 mbps (almost full t3) if you havent subscribed for it.

vbr-nrt 5000 5000 <1-65535>

the third parameter is burst size ( no of cells send at peak rate in a given time unit)You might want to set the peak cell rate at twice the sustainable cell rate and see if you experience cell loss or not.

What do you mean by "will be burst up to 40MB the following day" ?

If you mean that the VC is 5MB with an allowed burst of 40MB, then the configuration should be as follow:

vbr-nrt 40000 5000

where is the burst size which should be given to you by the circuit provider.

Re: ATM DS3 VBR from 5MB to 40MB

Sounds like you want SCR to be 5M and PCR to be 40M.

The config will be

vbr-nrt 40000 5000

Yes that is what we want.

We want to configure it so that it can burst up to 40MB.

Thanks to all for responding.
