ATM PVC issue.

I have vlan 1 configured on my Catalyst 5000 with an Ip address of 10.1.1.1/24 assigned to interface sc0. I have IP address 10.1.1.2/24 assigned to int atm 2/0.1 on my 7200 router. I have an ATM LANE blade in my Catalyst 5000 (which is connected back-to-back to the 7200) and I want to be able to ping from one side to the other across the ATM link.

I have tried:

Catalyst 5000:

session 5 (to get onto ATM LANE blade)

interface atm0.1 point-to-point

atm pvc 3 1 100 aal5snap

atm bind pvc vlan 3 1

7200:

interface atm 2/0.1 point-to-point

ip address 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.0

pvc 1/100

encapsulation aal5snap

When I try the ping from 7200 to Catalyst 5000, the pings time out and on the ATM LANE blade it shows an error for each ping as follows:

Number of received Frame dropped due to bad AAL5 length 10:

Anyone know what is going wrong? I have tried all I can think of!

Thanks,

Darren.

Re: ATM PVC issue.

The cat5k is going to send ethernet packets in AAL5snap frames while the router expects IP frames. You have to configure the router for IRB or RBE.

i was wondering what if you will use "atm routed-bridged ip" under the point-to-point interface on 7200 ...

thank you,
