ATM Virtual Templates, bridge groups

I inherited a router configuration as follows:

interface Virtual-Template1

ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/0

no ip route-cache cef

ip mroute-cache

peer default ip address pool test

ppp authentication pap

We are moving all users from 3640 to a 7206. I have been given instructions to set the virtual templates up as follows:

interface Virtual-Templatel

ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/0

no ip directed-broadcast

ppp authentication pap

peer default ip address pool test

Could some explain to me why I would , would not want ,

no ip route-cache cef

ip mroute-cache

no ip directed-broadcast

This is the subinterface config.

interface ATM3/0.32 point-to-point

shutdown

pvc 1/32

encapsulation aal5mux ppp Virtual-Template1

Another question I have is regarding bridge group set up. This is current config:

N = unique bridge-group number

config t

#bridge N protocol ieee

#bridge N route ip

#int bviN

#ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.xxx

#no ip directed-broadcast

#interface atm1/x.xxx point-to-point

#description : VPI/VCI 1/xxx, name, xxxk, bridge-group x, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xx

#no ip directed-broadcast

#atm pvc xxx 1 xxx aal5snap

#bridge-group N

Is this the optimum config to use?

Thanks

Re: ATM Virtual Templates, bridge groups

You can use the existing working config from 3600 router to 7200 router as well. Now about cef commands, you need it or don't that really depends. CEF is required to implement a Quality of Service (QoS) feature.

Pl. visit following urls for more for on that

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/iosw/iore/tech/cef_wp.htm

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/105/cefreq.shtml

Now about rest of the config, i think you are trying to terminate the PPPoA sessions along with bridging. You can visit following url for terminating different session types on 7200 router. Ignore CPE side config.

For PPPoA terminations

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/794/7200dsl_pppoa_mux.html

For IRB terminations

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/794/7200dsl_rfc1483.html

For all togather

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/794/7200_bdaggreg.html
