Aux to Console Connection

I recently heard through a friend that there is a way to connect your routers aux port to a switch's con port as a back door of sorts if you can't connect to the switch through telnet and you are not on site. Can anyone tell me how to setup my router and switch to do so? Thanks

Re: Aux to Console Connection

router config

line aux 0

transport input all

no exec

session-timeout 15

exec-timeout 15 0

switch config

line con 0

exec-timeout 15 0

to connect from the router out the aux port

do a sh line this will show you the aux line # then reverse telnet to this line .

on a 2600

router# sh line

Tty Typ Tx/Rx A Modem Roty AccO AccI Uses Noise Overruns Int

0 CTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

129 AUX 9600/9600 - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

router# telnet 2129

you must use an ip address on the box that is up up best one to use is the loopback.
