Back-Back Serial Interface

Hi,

We need to connect 2 Cisco Routers Back-Back using Serial Interfaces. My question is regarding the Cables needed.

We already have a "Male DTE" Cable. Should we connect this cable to a "Female DCE Cable" OR "Female DTE Cable" ?

Regards \\ Naman

You need a female DCE cable.

You can do it many ways.

You can buy a cable with db60 to db60 (male to male ). A 3ft cable costs 18 dollars a piece.

Another way to do is if you have a db60 to db25 (male DTE) cable, then you can get a db60 to db25(female DCE) cable and plug them together.

For the Part Number CAB-V35FC (FEM DCE V35 CAB 10 FT),

Does it mean that DB-60 Connector is MALE and V35 Connector is FEMALE ?

\\ Naman

Naman,

The gender specification applies to the V.35 end. The DB-60 end only comes as a male, to match the router's interface.

Mark

Thanks. Thats what i thought but wasn't sure.

A good source for crossover cables, both HD-60 and SmartSerial is http://www.pacificcable.com/CiscoCables.htm
