Back-to-back serial connections

When configuring two routers back to back with the serial interfaces, what is the maximum clock rate that can be used? I'm building a new lab out of old equipment and want to use and availble s0 interface to connect to the corp. DMZ for Internet access. 56 or 64kbs is the normal configuration but as to not cause an immediate bottleneck I wonder if this is even a good idea.

Re: Back-to-back serial connections

Usual range is 1200 to 8000000 bps for sync interfaces

Usual range is 300 to 8000000bps for sync/async interfaces

But

sync/async interfaces cannot go higher than 115200 practically...

sync interface can have higher clock rate configured upto 400000
