I am trying to simulate a wan conection using two 1600 series routers with Serial 0 ports and two X21 cables giving DCE to DTE connection.I tried a clockrate of 56000 but not sure if this correct as show CDP shows the neibouring routers but a ping does not respond.
Is there a basic config I can use for this set up, and what timing / framing do I need to allow this to work....
Without a config (better 2) is hard to say, but since CDP shows the neighbor means that there is no layer1/layer 2 issue (CDP works at layer 2) and since you cannot ping the issue is at layer 3. Therefore check ip addresses of the interfaces and that you have the correct routes in the routing table fed in by a routing protocol or by you using a static route.
