backup configuration for cisco837 :

Hello

I want to configure a backup connection with a cisco router 837, with an external modem connect on console/auxiliare port.

So with my modem, I have to change the stopbits value to 2, but I try to apply the cmd on line aux 0, it is not working well.

So do I need to modify the line console 0 configuration with stopbits 2, or apply on the two one con0 & aux0 ? is there a way to change this value with this router ?

Thanks in advance for your help,

best regards

Olivier

Re: backup configuration for cisco837 :

Under the line aux 0 or console, stopbits 2 is default so it will not show up in the configuration.

If you change it to 1 or 1.5 then it will show up in "show run".

When you say it's not working well, what issue are you running into?

deb dialer / deb chat / deb modem / deb ppp nego will be useful.

Thanks, Mak

Re: backup configuration for cisco837 :

Thanks for your responce,

Yes, about the issue, the backup is working, but if the router reload or is power off, at the power on sequence, the configuration stopbits 2 is not use during the boot , and then the backup do not working after, ... because the stopbits is different between the two devices.

Make sure you write to memory the configs...."write mem", now the configs will retained even after a reload.

Re: backup configuration for cisco837 :

Is it just stopbits command that the router is not being able to retain ? If not, I would certainly see the "show ver" output and see what the configuration register value is. Ofcourse you should never have the 7th bit or bit#6 set in the LSByte. A good value of configuration register is 0x2102. See below for more :

Re: backup configuration for cisco837 :

ISDN terminal adapters (TAs) can be used to provide basic rate interface (BRI) connectivity to routers without BRI interfaces. Typically the TA is connected to the serial port.

If you have a BRI port, then will not need a TA, probably you are referring to a NT1 that will be required with a BRI-S/T interface.

Yes, BRI can be used for a backup scenario. Please refer to the below URL that sample configs for isdn backup.

Thanks, Mak.
