Balanced and unbalanced with a NM-2CE1B

Hello!

Could anyone explain why a NM-2CE1B shows up as "unbalanced"? (see the output of commands sh contr e1 and sh diag below). According to the specs this is a balanced card.

Router#sh controllers E1

E1 1/0 is down.

Applique type is Channelized E1 - unbalanced

Transmitter is sending remote alarm.

Receiver has loss of signal.

Framing is CRC4, Line Code is HDB3, Clock Source is Line.

Data in current interval (430 seconds elapsed):

0 Line Code Violations, 0 Path Code Violations

0 Slip Secs, 430 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins

0 Errored Secs, 0 Bursty Err Secs, 0 Severely Err Secs, 430 Unavail Secs

Total Data (last 1 15 minute intervals):

0 Line Code Violations, 0 Path Code Violations,

1 Slip Secs, 900 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins,

0 Errored Secs, 0 Bursty Err Secs, 0 Severely Err Secs, 900 Unavail Secs

Re: Balanced and unbalanced with a NM-2CE1B

I guess this is correct and this does not have any effect on network health.

Re: Balanced and unbalanced with a NM-2CE1B

Barry,

This module has a jumper setting which can be set to 120 Ohm balanced or 75 Ohm Unbalanced.

Seems that the jumper is on Pins 1 and 2 which equates to unbalanced you will need to move them to 2 and 3

Hope this helps

Adios

Re: Balanced and unbalanced with a NM-2CE1B

This refers to the physical cable type you need to use with it i.e. Balanced = 120 ohm CAT5 UnBalanced = 75 Ohm Coaxial
