Basic config & feature set for configuring Ethernet sub-interfaces

I have a need to config a bunch of different subnets on the physical media. Sounds like a perfect situation for using Ethernet sub-interfaces. Is there a particular feature set you need to do this, and is there a good like for a basic config of doing this?

I've been surfing CCO for a while and have not found the details yet, so thought someone might have some details on this.

Thanks.

Re: Basic config & feature set for configuring Ethernet sub-inte

If you have a 2600 series or greater router you can use vlans to create the sub interfaces. Below is a sample of the interface config.

interface FastEthernet1/0

no ip address

speed auto

full-duplex

no mop enabled

interface FastEthernet1/0.107

encapsulation dot1Q 107

ip address 172.16.1.1 255.255.255.0

If you like click on my user id and send me an email for greater detail, than I can post here
