BBSM Problem

At least once a week, sometimes more often, the BBSM server stops responding to traffic on the internal (AtNatMP) interface. Here are some of the symptoms:

1. All of the entries in the arp table of the BBSM have mac addresses of all zeros. Configuring a static arp entry does not resolve the issue.

2. The output from the 'netstat -e' command shows the 'Discards' counter incrementing.

3. A Network Monitor trace shows traffic destined for the Internal interface, but nothing sourced from the Internal interface.

4. Restarting the Atdial service does not resolve the issue.

5. Disabling and re-enabling the Internal interface does not resolve the issue.

6. Physically disconnecting and reconnecting the Internal interface does not resolve the issue.

7. Restarting the BBSM resolves the issue.

Any ideas? I almost think this is a Win2k and/or hardware issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: BBSM Problem

It seems to be an issue with the Microsoft Unauthorized DHCP Server Detection. This is a feature in Windows 2000 (and later) which makes sure that only one DHCP is serving the network. The best solution is to stop the 'rogue' DHCP server in the network, and leave the BBSM server as the only DHCP server.
