I have 2 7206's, each with a DS3 of different sizes, and a Catalyst 4006 with the L3 card. Should I bother with the Cat using it as a default gateway for the workstations? Or should i have everyone point at the cat and then have the cat pick the best router? Any ideas? Anyone got any useful URLs about this sort of network design?
I think you can use L3 card. One of your 7206 can provide backup with HSRP configured on them. i think it may be better idea since 4232 has two GIG connections to the backplane. 7206 probably has 100 MB bottleneck for the traffic to and fro. You would get better performance with L3 doing the routing.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
