BGP community question

Hi All,

Does any body know the difference between BGP community no-export and local-as? Thank You!

Teru,

Local AS will stay within AS even in Confederation. No-export will be allowed to sub-as's within a confederation but will not be allowed out to (out side of confederation) to EBGP peers. this is the only difference.

no-export—Routes with this community are sent to peers in other sub-autonomous systems within a confederation. Do not advertise this route to an EBGP peer. External systems are those outside the confederation. If there is no confederation, an external system is any EBGP peer.

local-as —Do not advertise this route to peers outside the local autonomous system. This route will not be advertised to other autonomous systems or sub-autonomous systems when confederations are configured.
