BGP local preference

Hi,

I am wondering to find out if there is any difference in using "bgp default local-preference" in gbp config Vs using "set local-preference" under a route map.

In my understanding, using set local-preference=X under route map gives local pref=x in the local bgp table for the routes matched in route map.

Does "bgp default local-preference=X' gives loc-pref=x on all the learned routes in the local bgp table ? OR

Does it only effects the outbound advertisment to IBGP peers ?

Thanks for your help

In my understanding, "bgp default local-preference" command sets the local preference attribute of all learnt and then announced routes, same way "set local-preference" sets this attribute only for some updates learnt and then announced. With both commands local BGP table and BGP updates are modified and yes you're right only IBGP updates are affected by definition local-preference attribute is valid in the boundaries of an AS.

REgards.
