BGP Route Flap Dampening

Lets say the max-suppression time is 60 minutes; does that mean if a badly behaved network continuously flaps it will still be released after 60 minutes?

Re: BGP Route Flap Dampening

Hi

That is right..., Although penalties can continue to accumulate while the router

is suppressed, the router can not be suppressed beyond the maximum suppress limit . This to insure that a route that has flapped dones of times in a short period doesn't accumulate such a high penalty that it ramains suppressed indefinitely.

Cisco default route-dampening

Penelty 1000 per flap

Suppress limit 2000

Reuse limit 750

Half-time 15

Max suppress time 60 min, or 4 times the half-time

Hope this helps
