BGP Symmetric Routing:

Hi,

A Draft says in a multihoming scenario for symmetric routing the number of prepended AS's must be proportional to the number of connections. And this requires co-ordination with the service provider.

1. What do they mean by the number of connections?

2. What kind of co-ordination we need from SP to achieve symmetric

routing?

Thanks,

Dinesh

Re: BGP Symmetric Routing:

When you are multihomed, and you need to prepend AS info on the ASPATH attrib., its necessary to coordinate with the ISP, inorder to find out how many ASes (upstream) are there, before reaching the NAP.

Its a good piece of information to know how many ASes are there upstream via all your service providers, so that we can know how many AS numbers should be prepended to achieve symmetric routing.
