BOOTLDR variable on 6506

Hello,

I have a Catalyst 6506 and I jsut noticed that my "BOOTLDR=" variable is not set. I am running IOS 12.1(20)E3. Shouldn't this variable be set? The system boots up fine, so I'm wondering how?

The main reason I ask is because we are upgrading IOS to 12.2(18)SXF2, and when I downloaded the new image I didn't see a bootloader version. What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Jim

Re: BOOTLDR variable on 6506

You don't need a bootloader to load the regular image . I think you only needed on much earlier versions using like a sup1,msfc1 . You do not need one to run the 12.2.18SXF either . The bootloader was nice in that if for some reason your regular image doesn't not load it gave you quite a bit of flexibilty in recovering the box as opposed to trying to recover in rommon mode.
