Broadscast traffic

Hi,

I have a basic question on broadcast traffic. Here is the scanario:

If i have 2 link one is 100 and the other one is gig. When i see braodcast traffic on my network both links get filled up and i see drop packets.

So it really does not matter how big is your pipe , broadcast traffic can cause harm on any link ?

I was told if i have a bigger pipe ( gig) then broadcast traffic will not cause any problem.

My argument is that Broadcast will cause harm regardless of the b/w ?

Any idea.

Hi,

doesn't matter how large your link capacity is.

If you have excessive broadcast, a workaround could be to implement broadcast suppression http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008007e6ca.html#1027685

But what you'll really need to find out is where all that broadcast traffic is coming from and work on the root cause to clean up your network (get a sniffer trace).

Hope this helps.
