Buffer tuning

Hi

Is there a definitive answer or guide how increasing buffer pools will affect memory.

EG if I increase the small buffers permanent,min-free and max-free settings by 20%, will this increase memory used by proportional ammount. I Have read through the tunning guide but it recommends opening a TAC case.

Thanking you in advance

Hi

It does takes the memory either from I/O pool or from main memory.

Also its not recommended in general to tweak the buffer values untill unless we dont have much utilisation on either side..

If you are still interested in doing some changes to the buffer values i would suggest to check out the free/avl memory for both I/O and main memory before getting onto the config process..

would suggest to check this link on how do we monitor/check the memory health before proceeding into buffer tweaking..
