burstable speed

Hi,

How do we check the true or real bandwidth being offered by an ISP or a telco company ?

Say for example, how could we check the burstable point to point bandwidth of a certain leased line connection ?

Is it possible to do this on the router or by just using ftp and download and upload large amounts of data ?

Thanks,

Korg

There is several possibilities of testing the capacity of a line, but for 'real-life' figures, a simple download test or using an external tool such as Chariot is best.

IOS has a program called "ttcp" which is meant to test throughput with TCP connections over an IP path (may or may not be implemented in your platform).

See http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/471/ttcp.html for more info.
