C2509 terminals disconnecting

C2509 8k mem C2500-I-L v12.0(14) with dumb terminals attached via octal & cat5 cabling. Problem is some terminals cannot connect to the host when logging on, blank screen, other times users are in the system, then 'closed by foreign host' message then blank screen. Async config is:

line 3 8

exec-timeout 0 0

no activation-character

session-limit 1

no vacant-message

autocommand telnet synsys

no history

no editing

transport preferred telnet

transport input all

transport output telnet

escape-character NONE

stopbits 1

speed 19200

flowcontrol software

To enable the terminals, config mode and enter 'no modem inout' again, then they can log back into the system. Why do I need to keep putting in this command? This doesn't happen with all terminals, and no obvious pattern is emerging. Has anyone any ideas? I'm a bit stumped on this one. Cheers!

Often times complex troubleshooting issues are best addressed in an interactive trouble-shooting session with one of our trained technical assistance engineers. While other forum users may be able to help, it’s often difficult to do so for this type of issue.

To utilize the resources at our Technical Assistance Center, please visit http://www.cisco.com/tac and to open a case with one of our TAC engineers, visit http://www.cisco.com/tac/caseopen
