C3550 HSRP Standby group Entries Limitation

I want to create 48 Vlans on Cat3550. I also intend to create hsrp group entry for each vlan. However, after loading more than 16 unique HSRP groups, "More than 16 standby group entries not supported in this platform" message will be prompted out.

I followed the instruction of this document on Cisco web site:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps646/products_qanda_item09186a00801cb707.shtml

I have still encountered the same problems.

Very appreciated if you could give me any recommendation how to create 48 Vlans and 48 hsrp group entries on Cat 3550 - 48- EMI.

Thanks

Bin

Re: C3550 HSRP Standby group Entries Limitation

Are you bridging other non-IP protocols between VLANs? If you aren't then you can use the same Group number for each standby group:

interface vlan 10

ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

standby 1 ip 10.1.1.254

!

interface vlan 20

ip address 10.1.2.1 255.255.255.0

standby 1 ip 10.1.2.254

etc

This limitation is also present on the bigger platforms such as the Catalyst 6500 Supervisor2.
