just want to know when we conect two swithces togather which sort of cable do we use cross or straight (normal ports)......secondly when we connect uplinks of two switches which combination we use??? thanks in advance
a switch-to-switch link would normally require a crossover cable. Uplinks to routers would require a straight cable, uplinks to switches a crossover cable. That said, the newer switch models (e.g. the 3750) have a feature called MDIX, which, if enabled, automatically detects the cable connected and configures the port accordingly, so that it wouldn´t matter which type of cable you have connected...
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
