Campus Area Network Redundancy with Wireless Links
Our Campus area consits of 5 sites which area interconnected with a Wireless network with a frame relay network as a backup. The wireless network consits of a mixture of Orinoco Wireless routers( which only support RIP V2) over several hops, and Tsunami Wireless Bridges between Cisco Routers. The frame network is Hub and Spoke with a mixture of Cisco and Nortel routers ( the hub site is a cisco 3745) We are looking for a method to provide automatic failover between the Wireless Network and the Frame Relay Network. Failover at present is performed manually by static route changes. Any thoughts or advice woiuld be apprieciated.
Re: Campus Area Network Redundancy with Wireless Links
One option is to enter two static routes for the same destination network, one through wireless link and another through frame relay but with higher admin distance. So if the wireless link fails, then frame relay static route will become active.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
