can 1000BaseT GBIC connect to a 10/100 FE port

The GBIC is inserted in a 3508 switch port and the FE port comes from a 2924FX switch. Can 1000BaseT GBIC operate in 100m mode? Thanks.

No, it can't.

1000{S,L,Z}X uses different signaling than 100BASE-FX

You can buy fiber-to-copper media converts though, and they work pretty well.

Good Luck

Re: can 1000BaseT GBIC connect to a 10/100 FE port

Thanks for the info. I'm not using fiber cables; it is a copper based GBIC (1000BaseT) to a 100baseT FE port. I should rephrase my questin: Can 1000BaseT GBIC operate in 10m or 100m mode?

Yes, it should be able to "downshift" to at least 100 meg, I believe.

Some chipsets also can drop to 10meg, but I'm not sure of the Cisco flavor is capable of doing so.

Good Luck

Correct. It depends on the manufacterer of the gbic (sfp), and the chipset behind the sfp on the switch.
