I have heard that 128MB's was now the minimum for Full internet routes. I personally have 256 Mb's on our edge 7206 VXR router for full internet routes.

The main reason I know for using full internet routes using BGP4 is when you have more than one ISP and want to find the best route to a host on the internet by calculating the best path. In order to provide the best path your router needs to know the location of nearly every router on the internet. Thus you need full routes of the internet. Other options are available too if you can't hold the full routing table such as using only major internet routes, such as only major ISP routers (AT&T, WorldCom, Sprint, etc.)
