on a 2950 and above maybe some lower.. if you go in config and enter this on a interface
switchport access vlan 300
however my switch was not configured for vlan 300 it creates a vlan 300 container on the fly. i want to know is there a way to turn that off.. in case someone typos the wrong vlan, next thing i know i have switches with vlans configured that should'nt have them..??
i want to be forced to create the vlan first in config mode not in interface config mode.

that behavior is inherent in all 3k , 2k platforms , but does note exist in 4k and 6k. AFAIK , there is no way to disable it except running the switch in vtp client mode . That will not create the vlan . If the switch is vtp server or in transparent mode , the vlan will be created automatically.
thanks
