Can I turn off EIGRP?

My network consists of 1 router built on the SUP engine of a 6509 switch. While monitoring network packets the other day I noticed a non-stop broadcast of EIGRP traffic from each of my gateways to an address of 224.0.0.10 just saying HELLO. Question is ... does EIGRP need to be turned on (remember, only using 1 router) and if its not needed, how do I turn it off?

Re: Can I turn off EIGRP?

You definitely don't get much benefits from running EIGRP if you only have one router in your network. To disable eigrp just use the following command in global configuration mode:

no router eigrp
