Can't connect a 2950SX-24 to a 3524XL-24 switch

If I try to connect a 2950SX-24 with a MT-RJ connector, via a MT-RJ/SC cable, to 3524XL with a 1000base-X GBIC. It failed to make a connection. I don't see the led's going to amber or green.

I tried many cables and a second 2950SX but with the same result , So I can rule out any hardware problems.

Is there a know problem connecting devices with a MT-RJ connector to a GBIC?

I though It was possible to connect bought because I wanted to cascade the two. And I have done this with may 3524's and 2924MXL's but that was all configured with GBIC's. But this time I tried it with a 2950SX because of the lower costprice.

Thanks in advance

Are you using the 1000Base-SX port on the 2950?

Yes , I am

I tried to reverse the cable so that Tx and Rx are crossed but because I than have to break the cable-end (the SC side) into two seperate pieces.

But therefore I waited for a reply of my fellow Cisco members.

Because the SC side has two plastic little squares to indicate that your cable is connected properly.

Did you try to swap the connections on the cable as it feeds to the GBIC in the 3524?

D-

If you are connecting via a trunk you have to use 802.1q encapsulation. The 2950 does not have ISL capabilities like the 3500s and the 2924...
