Re: Can't ping from router to router, please help !

Hello. I have two 2500 series routers. I can't ping either router. Here is what I know...

On both routers, all ethernet and serial ports are up, and all protocols show up. I can view each router in the show CDP neighbors. I have set clock rates on DCEs, done the no shuts, set the bandwidth, everything shows as ok but I cannot ping from router to router. Please help.

Did you turn on IP routing by using the "ip routing" command on both routers?

make sure they are on the same subnet .

your serial interfaces are on different subnets , they need to be on the same subnet to ping each other

I have assigned all interfaces on both routers with the same subnet mask. I use the ip addresses 50.0.0.1, x.x.0.1, and x.x.0.1 on the other router interfaces but the same subnet mask. Below is a copy of the show run. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

according to the cdp output above the s0 of router 2 connects to this interface, in order to ping , serial 0 of router 2 must be on the same network currently the ip address of s0 of router 2 is x.x.0.1 . change the ip address on serial 0 of router 2 to x.x.0.2 255.0.0.0, then you will be able to ping , this needs to be done on serial 1 of both routers also

Thank you for the help, it works to have both Serial Interfaces on the same network number. I'm still confused because originally I had (network x.x.0.1 on Router1 Serial 1) ping (Router2 network x.x.0.1 on Serial 1) and it was working just fine. The only reason that it doesn't work currently is because someone erased and reloaded router2, I couldn't get the configurations the same.
