I have two Cisco 4700 routers running HSRP.

Recently I can't telnet to standby IP(VIP) of HSRP.

Ping and trace are working well.

and I can telnet(ping, trace) to real IP of the devices whtch are the two Cisco 4700s.

Everything is well done but only telnet to VIP of HSRP is not working.

How can I do?

What do you mean with standby-IP?

When HSRP is active, one device handles the IP traffic for the standby adress. This adress is the same for all devices in the standby-group.

The device that has the standby interface can be contacted using the (real) IP adress of the device itself. When the active device fails, the standby will take over and hence you can then also contact this device using the HSRP-adress.

Thank you for your apply....

I know well about HSRP and its operating.

I mean the standby address is virual address not the real address of the device as you told.

But I can't telnet to the standby address. Everything is well done such as Ping, Trace to the standby address(VIP).

Only telnet to standby address(VIP) of the device(Cisco 4700)is not working...

I think this case is very abnormal operation and I have never seen such this case...

If its only telnet that is not working, you could check the following:

vty access filtered by an access-list in or out.

ip telnet-source interface configured to an interface that is not reachable.

sounds simple, but it happens.

Thank you for your guidance...

I looked for that configuration on my router, but I couldn't find what you told

I think it is the bug of IOS... and this is supposed to be so possible.

I have a cisco 4700 which has a same problem in another site.

It has a same ios....

I will upgrade ios and I'll notify the result of that occation....

Thank you for your cowork again...
