Can't tftp IOS to 1501

I TFTP'd the IOS from one 2501 to the server and then tried to load it onto a second machine. I continue to get the following error at location 0x3C00000:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

%Error: System flash location 0x3C00000 - wrote 0xD180014 , read

0x80000

It has been suggested that Flash still contains files and thus does not have enough room for the new file (14Meg) which is larger than the original (11Meg). It has also been suggested that I should "squeeze" flash, but 2500 series are type "B" to which the 'squeeze' instruction does not apply.

Here is what I get when I ERASE FLASH, VERIFY FLASH and SHOW FLASH.

Erase flash device? [confirm]

Are you sure? [yes/no]: y

Erasing device... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...erased

Top_2501(boot)#verify flash

No files on device

Top_2501(boot)#sh flash

System flash directory:

No files in System flash

[0 bytes used, 16777216 available, 16777216 total]

16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

I am able tftp the original file back to flash.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,

it seems that there is a problem with the flash above the 11 Mbyte. I am not a cisco

hardware specialist but the listed address 0x3c00000 is very strange because to

address 16 Mbyte (16384000 Byte) Flash the highst address is 0xFA0000 and

this can be done with a 24-Bit address bus. 0x3c00000 needs at least a 26-Bit

address bus.

However. I suggest, you should replace the Flash memory.
