Can the GBIC port turn into a layer 3 port on the Cat 5500?

I have a Cat 5500 with GBIC module; Can I turn the GBIC port as a layer 3 port? Basically, i want a layer 3 connection between a remote router and this Cat 5500 thru Gigabit connection. Is this possible to terminate at the GBIC port as a layer 3 connection or I need another router in front of the Cat 5500 to make this connection. Here is the "sh mod" on the cat 5500 if this helps: Thanks.

Re: Can the GBIC port turn into a layer 3 port on the Cat 5500?

Peter,

There isn't any way to turn a single port on a 5403 blade into a layer 3 port.

You could, however, move it into its own VLAN, and then configure your 5302 RSM blade to have a virtual interface on that VLAN. So only the RSM virtual port and the one GBIC port are part of that VLAN, and the RSM provides the L3 routing into the rest of the switch.

That's about as close as you can get to a 3550 "no switchport" L3 port on the 5000.
