Cat 1900 console port

I have a very old catalyst 1900 and am having trouble determining the console cable pinouts. On the back of the switch is a male db-9 labeled console(no rj45 port).

I have tried using both a rollover cable and straight-through using the 'terminal' db9 connectors on both ends with no luck. There does not appear to be any available reference on how to connect the db9 port to a pc with emulation software.

I am looking for either a reference point or pinouts to make the correct cable.

Thanks!!

Pete,

I believe you need to use a null modem cable. Hope the following web page helps.

I made a console cable to connect from my pc com port to the 1900 male DB9 console port. I used a cisco rollover cable and two female DB9 connectors purchased from Radio Shack. Refer to the following article:

http://cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/28201900/1928v5x/icg5x/csspec.htm

Refer to figure A4 and A6. Be sure to notice how the pins of the female connectors align to the male pinouts of figure A4. So, one end of the rollover cable is: 1+6 bridged to brown, 2-blue,3-yellow,4-green, 5-red,7-black, 8-gray, 9-open. The other end is 1+6 bridged to green, 2-yellow, 3-blue, 4-brown, 5-red, 7-gray,8-black, 9-open.

Have fun!
