Cat 3750: Impossibility to ping the new ...

master through the new stack master console port?

We have tested this on a stack of four elements running under 12.2(25)SEC2: When the stack master is lost, a new is elected

-Through the console port of the new stack master we are not able to ping the VLAN1 IP @ of the stack.

-Through any other element we are able to ping the VLAN1 IP @ of the stack.

- Two PCs connected: One to the stack master the other on another element are able to ping each other!!

Anyone has an explanation! The maximum grade will be reserved to him if it matches exactly my issue ;-)

Can you post the capture of the console prompt and the show switch? When you console to any of the stack member you will be presented with the stack master's prompt even if you consoled in to the member's console. It would not make a difference if you ping from any element since you will be pinging since the switch stack is managed through a single IP address. The IP address is a system-level setting and is not specific to the stack master or to any other stack member. You can still manage the stack through the same IP address even if you remove the stack master or any other stack member from the stack, provided there is IP connectivity.

Yes. This is among the basics of the 3750 stacking technology. But what happened was not waited at all. So, a PC could console the new stack master, but could not ping its VLAN1 IP @. Also it could ping another PC connected on aother element of the stack!!! Unfortunately, I have not saved the outputs but all seemed for us at normal states regardless this strange issue.

May the "stack-mac persistent timer" command have generated this effect although I could not find any relationship with it?

The question is not clearly formulated: You shall understand that it is not possible to ping the new stack master (obviously through Ethernet Cable and VLAN1 interface with IP address) from the PC directly connected to it. However the PC could ping another PC connected on another element.

The console Port is just to say that we have connection to the switch through the console port (Obviously, it has no relationship with the VLAN1 and its IP configuration or the IP configuration of the PC)

You could try clearing the arp and mac address table to see if that helps anything .
