Cat 3750 & Novell 5.1 with Gigabit NIC

We are experiencing performance issues when using HP NC10xx/NC32xx/NC77xx Gigabit server adapter running driver version 8.56 in Novell 5.1 with SP8. To make this NIC under Novell to go Gigabit speed, we have to set the NIC to Auto (no options for Gigabit, only 100/10mbps). This was also recommended by the Novell and HP. The Catalyst 3750 running IOS 12.1.19, we have both set the port speed on the port and to auto. No errors are reported on the switch or Novell server. We do notice performance is slower then when the server is set to 100Mbps full duplex. Example when doing a file transfer (standard windows file copy from a worksatation to Novell Volume) of 20MBs, it will take around 2 to 3 minutes when NIC is auto and switch is set at Gig. The same file transfer when both Novell and switch are set to 100Mbps will only take a few seconds. A noticeable performance difference. We have done a Novell trace and Novell does not see any issues or errors. We have also done a Sniffer capture from the switch and see no issues. The cabling is certified Cat. 6. Has anyone experienced the same or similar issue and how did you solve the performance issue?
