CAT 4003 interfaces vs CAT 6009 interfaces

On our CAT 6009, our VLAN's define interfaces and all of our routing reflects this. We have recently merged with another company that has a CAT 4003 and that machine's interfaces (I believe) are defined via sub-interface port channel's. My question is can we define interfaces on the CAT 4003 similarly to what we have done with the 6009 via VLAN's? Also, will this slow the 4003 down as it's backplane is slower that than the 6009?

Re: CAT 4003 interfaces vs CAT 6009 interfaces

You are correct, you would define port-channel interface and define sub-interface for each vlan.

You can't do vlan interface on the 4232-l3 module so there is no question of slowing down the cat4k.
