Cat 4500 series: does it support MLS?

I should make a decision: what switch I should bye

than can switch fast IPX packets.

Now I have 5505 & 3620 external router with MLS configured on 4x100TX ports. Group of different VLANs I distribute ( and switch) over different ports.

IP & IPX works good. Now we have only 7x1Gbit ports and I plane upgrade

Can anyone answer: does Cat 4500 series support IP&IPX MLS?

P.S. Excuse for my bad english.

Re: Cat 4500 series: does it support MLS?

CAT4500 utilizes CEF based hardware switching for IP. IPX routing of packets is not hardware assisted. It is done through software processing.

And what's the speed (in pps) of software routing?

We have 1000 users on Novell NW5 in different VLANs. Will it work?

Re: Cat 4500 series: does it support MLS?

Routing of IPX is supported since 12.1(12c)EW software. In the initial release the performance is in the range of 20 -30kpps but since has been increased to 80-90 kpps starting from Cisco IOS 12.1(13)EW software. This forwarding rate is shared by all flows following through the switch. This forwarding does increase the CPU load due to software processing. As such, the forwarding rate achieved is dependent on the switch CPU, e.g. how many BGP policies, EIGRP/OSPF routes, SVIs the switch has.
