CAT 5500 - SUP III - Intermitent Switching Bus Timeout NMI

The SUP III - mother board and daughter cards have all been replaced as a set and we still have the same crash.

========================================

Could this be related to this bug - CSCdr14538?

The switch is currently running CatOS version 5.5(19).

The only thing I can tell is maybe go to 5.5.21 and also reseat all linecards before rebooting .

Switching bus Timeout NMI

BUS A Last Card Grant(Slot No) = 1

BUS B Last Card Grant(Slot No) = 7

BUS C Last Card Grant(Slot No) = 1

Bus A caused NMI

Last Exception occurred on Mar 04 2006 16:03:08 ...

Software version = 5.5(19)

if you are running 4.1(x) code or above then replace the card in the slot identified. double check this by making sure that the slot identified corresponds to the bus identified.

Switching bus Timeout NMI

BUS A Last Card Grant(Slot No) = 1

BUS B Last Card Grant(Slot No) = 7

BUS C Last Card Grant(Slot No) = 1

Bus A caused NMI

You can see from the above example it points to the card in slot 1 which does correspond to bus A so that card should be replaced.

The SUP III card in slot 1 including the NFFCII-A daughter card and the 2 port Gigabit Uplink Daughter card and the same problem is still happening about once or twice a day.

Re: CAT 5500 - SUP III - Intermitent Switching Bus Timeout NMI

Maybe, but something is causing the switching bus NMI. It might be traffic related. A deeper investigation might be required. does the sup stop crashing if inserted in slot 2?

Haven't moved SUP III to slot 2, because all 9 slots are occupied. This also means we have to reconfigure the switch ports and vlans etc.

Re: CAT 5500 - SUP III - Intermitent Switching Bus Timeout NMI

Cisco have come back and said that this is due to bug CSCdr14538 which is what I pointed to when I first posted my question in this forum. The CAT5509 is running out of power and hence the problem. There is no fix for this problem other than reduce network load on the CAT 5509, especially if you have a lot of Multicast Traffic.
