CAT 6509 Snmp informational errors.

Dear All,

I keep receiving the below error message on the console when

ever I login to the CAT.

2006 Jul 03 05:21:42 %SNMP-5-SNMPAUTHFAIL:Authentication failed for message from 10.60.1.200

2006 Jul 03 05:51:51 %SNMP-5-SNMPAUTHFAIL:Authentication failed for message from 10.60.1.200

2006 Jul 03 05:51:51 %SNMP-5-SNMPAUTHFAIL:Authentication failed for message from 10.60.1.200

I would like to resolve this authentication failure issue.

Cisco Site says that these messages are purely informational.

I would like to resolve the issue, but not disable informational message

logging. I know if I disable Informational logging or disable SNMP the

message disapperas, but thats not a solution, its killing the problem not

resolving it.

Cisco Debug tool result:

. %SNMP-5-SNMPAUTHFAIL: Authentication failed for message from [chars]

This message indicates that the switch has received an SNMP message

that was not properly authenticated. [chars] is the source of the message.

Recommended Action: No action is necessary.

This message is provided for information only.

SNMP Setting on the Switch.

#snmp

set snmp community read-only abcd

set snmp community read-write abcde

set snmp rmon enable

set snmp trap enable module

set snmp trap enable chassis

set snmp trap enable bridge

set snmp trap enable vtp

set snmp trap enable auth

set snmp trap enable ippermit

set snmp trap enable vmps

set snmp trap enable entity

set snmp trap enable config

set snmp trap enable stpx

set snmp trap enable syslog

set snmp trap 10.60.1.200 abcd port 111 owner index 1

set snmp trap 10.60.1.200 abcd port 111 owner root@root [102783 index 2

set snmp trap 10.60.1.82 abcd port 111 owner root@root [104052 index 3

set snmp trap 10.63.22.170 abcde port 111 owner CLI index 4

I would like to curtail these erros from occouring on the CLI while

logged in using console. The 10.60.1.200 ip refers to CISCO works

running on the network. Both Switch and Cisco works have the

SNMP strings correctly configured.

Please let me know how to curtail these messages cause I need to

have message loggin for information level as well. But not the above

messages all the time.

Rgds.

Re: CAT 6509 Snmp informational errors.

The issue may be due to the CAM table. Clearing the CAm table will resolve the issues. If the issue is occured and the traps are not sent SNMP Server then the SNMP may generate the error.

Re: CAT 6509 Snmp informational errors.

This could be related to a bug in User Tracking. The bug is CSCse68260 and here's a workaround you can try:

Set the value of UTGetVlansOnDownPorts property to 0 in NMSROOT/campus/etc/cwsi/ANIServer.properties.

Then stop/start ANIServer process for change to take effect.
