We do have the .tar file for 12.1.9.EA1d. Make sure you are logged in
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cat2950
Upgrade procedure is very similar to that of XL switches

I know cat2900xl, 3500xl have command "tar", but Cat2950 dosen't have
command " tar".
You should check in cat2950T.

Check step 12 here
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat2950/1219ea1/ol236202.htm#xtocid18
In this step, the archive tar command copies the .tar file that contains both the image and the HTML files. If you are upgrading from a release earlier than Release 12.1(6)EA2, use the tar command instead of the archive tar command.

Do you have the actual .tar file and are just unable to extract it? Most .tar files I have used contain both the IOS + HTML files. When all the files are extracted, the IOS .bin file is created in the root flash directory with all HTML files created in an "HTML" folder...
Just use the archive /xtract command to copy + extract the .tar file from the tftp server.
Did I understand your question?

There are two kinds of software image on the cisco CCO Software center.
*.tar include the HTML files and IOS software
*.bin just include the IOS software
I think you can use the web interface to upgrade the software. It's very easy!!!
