Cat3500 password recovery problem .. unknown_4#?

Recently, I did a password recovery for a Cat3500 switch and got this problem. I followed the instruction found in cisco website. I renamed the config.text file to config.old. After a reboot, I renamed the config.old back to config.text. Everything was fine until I tried to copy the config.text back to the running-config. Once I typed in the copy command and pressed enter, it showed that xxx bytes copied in xxx secs, but the now the switch# changed to "unknown_4#" and I couldn't do anything from there. What is the problem and how to solve it? Thanks

Re: Cat3500 password recovery problem .. unknown_4#?

Please clarify what you mean when you say you cannot do anything from there ? Can you access the configuration mode using the console connection ?

Hi Skarundi,

What I mean is that whatever I typed in (such as enable), it just returned the unknown_4# and I couldn't continue to change the password. Thanks.

Hi,

it seems like there is something wrong in the config.text file.

Have you tried to look at it via "more config.text" command?

Or copy it from flash to your PC (tftp server)?

Regards,

Milan
