Cat4006 Error Message

2003 Aug 02 07:32:50 %SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Astro(4/3) - timeout occurred

These error messages occurred on a Cat4006 w/ Sup II this weekend causing part of my network to drop. Although resetting the switch fixed the problem, I am going to have questions on Monday as to why it happened. The website says that it means the Supervisor lost communication with a component on a 10/100 card but doesn't explain much more than that. Has anyone seen this error before and can explain to me where to start looking for the cause? Everything I see on the show tech looks good but obviously something happened.

Thank you.

Were you seeing Astro errors only for few cards or all cards? Can you paste the output of sh mod?

Funny my search for this information didn't show that link. Thanks. This show module was taken right before I rebooted the switch:

The error messages were reported on only 2 ports:

Astro on 4/3 & 4/4 while the Lemans error was on 2/3 and 2/4

I'll try swapping the module around the next time we have the error come up. As far as a spanning-tree loop, I'm investigating a possible problem but haven't discovered anything concrete yet.

Hello,

We had problems with our 4006 on Sunday generating the Astro message, but unfortunately it was reloaded before I could record the message. On reloading, the switch stayed down until I powered off the switch and re-seated the Supervisor (SEIII) module. I would be interested to know if spanning tree is an issue as we have replaced this switch in the last 3-6 months because of this problem.

Thank you
