Do a clear counters first.. & then see if the output errors start building up again to make sure you're not troubleshooting an error that isn't actually there. If you continue to receive errors.. then I would check the speed/duplex settings on both sides.. as well as checking the trunking encapsulation/settings. Try that & let us know what happens. Hope this helps..
Thanks for your reply. I've been watching the output error counter increment for the last week, over 3 million errors in last 4 days. Regarding speed/duplex, one side is hard coded for 1000 fd and the is auto 1000 fd. Although both connections are set up for isl, the rest of the ports on the 4908 are set to 802.1q, and I'm concenrned about that. Other config questions include keepalive is set to 10sec on 4908 and not set on 3524., there is also a output flow-control param that is set on the 3524 that I'm not familiar with. Again thanks for the reply....
As far as duplex/speed settings go.. I would go ahead and make sure both sides are hardcoded for 1000/full duplex. Problems can sometimes occur when one side is set to auto-negotitate & the other side is hard-coded with a specific setting. Give that a try, clear the counters.. & lemme know. As far as different ports/interfaces utilizing different encapsulations.. that's totally fine. The only problem that would arise out of using different encapsulations.. would apply to the SAME interface.. (i.e. having dot1Q set on one end.. and ISL on the other).. but as you told me before.. you're running ISL on both ends.. so that's not the case. I do not think the keepalive timers are generating your problems. Try out my recommendations & let us know. Hope this helps.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
