I have two Cat4006 switches (switch A and B) currently running with one switch equipped with a L3 routing module (in say switch A). The switches are interconnect via dual, EtherChannel 802.1Q trunk. I'm thinking of purchasing a second L3 routing module and install it in one of the switch (switch B) AND use the two spare FRONT GBIC (routing) interfaces on the L3 modules and interconnect them together to:
1. Redundant link to the trunk that connects the switches together as described before.
2. Load balancing (using HSRP groups)
My questions are:
1. Is it possible to connect the two FRONT routed interfaces on the L3 routing modules together and turn on trunking between them? Does this make sense?
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
