Cat5509 system port warning traps messages.

Device: Cat5509 WS-C5509 Software, Version McpSW: 6.3(8) NmpSW: 6.3(8)

We keep on receiving the above ports warning messages continuously from two Cat5509s. We haven't been able to find any information about the warning in any documentation.

Does anybody know what the message means, how critical it is and if possible how to correct it?

Any information would be appreciated. We are thinking on opening a case with TAC, but there might be some explanation to it.

Problem: The syslog reports the following error message:

2002 Sep 21 11:07:20 %SYS-4-PORT_WARN:Port 5/29 dmaTxFull (0)

dmaRetry (0) dmaLevel2Request (0)

Description: This message occurs when multiple errors mount on the ports. If the dmaTXfull counter increments, the port is overloaded or the problem could be due to collision. Hardcode the speed and duplex on the switch ports as well as on workstation NICs. Do not set the speed and duplex mode to auto. This solves 99% of traffic problems with workstations. If there are any hubs or old cables in between the switch and the workstation, test those for integrity Also, you may upgrade the firmware of the NICs that are installed in critical workstations and servers. If you still get these messages, open a case with the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
